Sherry's Run

February 11, 2012
myself, Kimberly, and Amy

God of Light,
Creator of all that is good.
We thank you for this day.
We pray for Sherry's family, for those who love her, for all mothers, for all runners.
Remind us that a single, dark, heinous act does not have victory over us.
Love wins.
Let us all be mirrors that reflect Sherry's light and your love into the world,
for the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.
In Christ, Amen.

I read a running blog called Shut Up and Run. In January 2012 the author's cousin was kidnapped and killed in Montana while out on a solo run. This tragedy happened in her small town, 10 minuets into her run and about a mile from her house. A year ago a virtual run was held in Sherry's memory. I ran with my friends Kimberly and Amy. Today was the second annual virtual run in memory of Sherry. I began my solo run this morning praying the words above. My friend, Kimberly, wrote it last year.

I have many thoughts swirling around in my head about the theme of doing things solo. They will need to wait for another post. I'm exhausted. After my 17 miles I took an ice bath, showered, got fancied up, and was off to a family Charity Ball. As in dance. I danced after 17 miles. I danced with friends who ran 19 and 20 miles earlier today. We rock. Our kids had a blast. The band rocked. I danced with my kids. I'm going to hurt tomorrow. I'm going to hurt a lot!

Gear Up!

My husband sometimes calls from work to tell me he's heading home so I have time to do what he calls "Gear Up!" He's been a runner off and on through his adult life. When he runs he puts on his running shoes and his watch and goes. He makes fun of me thinks I'm cute with all my gear.

I have my hand held water bottle...

I have the blue one. My cell phone fits in the front pocket.

My IpodShuffle (I'm low tech like that.) I just got a new one. The old one wouldn't hold a charge and it drove me nuts! I only use one ear bud so I can somewhat hear what is around me.

My Garmin... I don't like to do homework of researching my run/distance ahead of time. I also don't like (or can't) to do math while I run. This gives me distance, pace, time running...

My Road ID so that the hospital can call my husband or they can ID my body. I have my husband and a friend listed on it. My friend doesn't think the ID my body thing is very funny.

Finally, for long runs there is fuel. Sometimes it's Shot Bloks and sometimes it's gel. I'm not thrilled with either and I need to play around with fuel over the next few weeks.
Is it possible that I may be a running diva?

Lupus Awareness

Many symptoms of lupus mimic those of other illnesses, and symptoms can come and go over time, which makes diagnosis more difficult. Consequently, lupus can take three to five years or more to diagnose.

Wonder Woman Day

It's been a Wonder Woman kind of day. I'm feeling better. Today I've accomplished arriving at the gym when it opened this morning, complete a light workout there, remembering to fill up with gas on the way home, send an email to a kid's school principal, shower, prepare kids breakfast, take a moment to notice the sunrise with my daughter, pack lunches, deliver kid to school early for Reading Olympics practice, drive to the side of town I dislike and work for 6 hours, make it home for the bus, reply to emails, reply to texts, supervise/help with homework, run a mile with the kids (with a stop at the park,) make a real dinner, empty the dishwasher, fill dishwasher, sort the mail, wash & dry one load of clothes, fold 2 loads of clothes, put away 4 loads of clothes, supervise showers, talk to my sister in-law on the phone, fix bedtime snack, read one chapter of bedtime story, tuck kids in bed, read one article in a magazine, totaled and emailed Girl Scout cookie order, reviewed graded homework, read classroom newsletters, filled out 5 forms to be returned to school, swept kitchen floor, put rabbit in hutch, and re-charged my cell phone.

I feel accomplished for the day. Now I will sit/breathe/pray/meditate (and most likely fall asleep.)
Night.

Be Strong
when you are weak
Be Brave
when you are scared
Be Humble
when you are victorious
Be Badass

Fear

I started running a couple years ago as a way of doing something I was afraid of trying. That is one reason I keep increasing the distance. The thought of 26.2 makes me weak in the knees with fear.

I've added a new song to my play list today....

Wonder Woman

Reading this made me smile.

And I haven't smiled much in the last 36 hours. I haven't done much of anything but sleep in the last 36 hours. Oh, and loose 5 pounds. I've done what a person needs to do to loose 5 pounds in 36 hours.

Yes, the norovirus infection caught up with me.

My long run is not going to happen this weekend. I'm just now getting some solid food in me and I'm dehydrated. Thankfully I have a recovery run scheduled next weekend. I'll try to get some longer runs in during this week and then do this weekends 17 miles next weekend. That means my next few long runs will be 17, 18, 20 then taper. Wow. That is a little overwhelming from my position at the moment. I have to remember that this moment will pass.

And if, and if the night runs over
And if the day won't last
And if your way should falter
Along this stony pass
It's just a moment
This time will pass
- U2, Stuck In A Moment lyrics
